Abstract

Mehmet Ali Pasha, who was the Governor of Egypt revolted against the Ottoman rule in 1831, forcibly seized the administration of Syria and Palestine. He tried to strengthen the central authority, regulating the tax system and introduced conscription in these countries. These activities irritated the inhabitants of these countries. The reactions of the people turned into a major revolt within a short period of time and caused Egyptian government serious problems. In this study, we will try to explain the administrative system the Egyptian government tried to implement in Palestine, how it affected the Palestinians and why this effect turned into a rebellion.
