Bread Shortage in Istanbul During the First Months of the Armistice Period

Abstract

When extraordinary conditions during war and post war period prevail, the most important threat people face is the shortage of subsistence and poverty. Also the priority issue of Turkish society having ennerged from the First World War in the armistice period was to provide the basic requirements and particularly the need for bread especially in densely populated cities, the problem of subsistence in the post war was the subject of examination of the governments. And also in this article, The Government of Ahmet Tevfik Paşa, which was in power in the first four months in the armistice period, and its performance and solution ways followed to meet the subsistence of inhabitats of İstanbul, particularly the need of bread were discussed.
