Özet

Jan Schmidt'in hazırlamış olduğu bu kataloğun, geçtiğimiz asrın son çeyreğinde yayınlanmış kataloglar arasında müstesna bir yeri vardır. Diğer kataloglar göz önüne alınınca, aslında bu çalışmayı katalog diye adlandırmakla, sanki kendimi bir haksızlık yapmış gibi hissediyorum. Çünkü Schmidt'in eserinde sadece Leiden Üniversitesi Kütüphanesi'nde bulunan Türkçe yazmaların bibliyografik tanıtımlarını değil, katalogda yer alan yazmalar vasıtasıyla Hollandalı kitap meraklılarının, diplomatların ve ilim adamlarının Doğu'yla olan münasebetlerini, bu pazarlardan sağladıkları yazmaları, koleksiyonlarının oluşum serüvenini ve bu yazmaların bize anlattıkları hikayeleri de buluyoruz. Özellikle diplomatların koleksiyonlarının Osmanlı-Hollanda siyasi ve kültürel münasebetlerine ışık tutacak materyal ihtiva ettiklerini görüyoruz.
