Özet

Yazarın Önsöz'de belirttiği üzere bu kitap, İstanbul Üniversitesi Araştırma Fonu desteğiyle yapılan ve 4 yılı kapsayan uzun ve detaylı bir çalışmanın ürünü olarak bilim dünyasına sunulmuştur. Kitap, Birinci Bölüm: Giriş (s.1-7), İkinci Bölüm: Katalog (s.8-142), Üçüncü Bölüm: Değerlendirme (s.143-156), Dördüncü Bölüm: Sonuç (s.156) ve Beşinci Bölüm olarak Bibliyografyadan (s.157-159) oluşmaktadır. Yazar "Giriş" başlıklı Birinci Bölüm'de izlediği araştırma yöntemini anlatırken, tekrarlardan kaçınarak, farklı planlara sahip olan bu camilerin ilk kez plan tipolojisinin yapıldığını vurgulamıştır. Yörenin mimari gelişiminde etkili faktörler ele alınmış, bölgedeki ahşap mimari öğelerin yapım teknikleri de detaylı olarak anlatılmıştır. Bu konuda; blok duvar tekniği, yığma duvar tekniği, çit duvar tekniği ve hartalama duvar tekniği olmak üzere dört teknik saptanmıştır. Yörenin mimari geleneğinin geçmişi de Geç Kalkolitik Çağ'dan itibaren ele alınıp değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular ışığında Alt Paleolitik Çağ'dan başlayan detaylı bir tarihçe bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca Türkler'de ahşap mimarinin kökenleri; kurgan mimarisinden başlayarak kronolojik olarak verilmiş ve bu konuda bilgi veren seyahatnameler de değerlendirilmiştir.
